Chapter 2 Journal Activity

Why?

Totem: The idea that the stones moved as the people did, from Marlborough Downs and from Wales, is analogous to the cultural nostalgia or conservatism apparent among many groups of colonists over the ages. This would support the theory that Stonehenge filled in part a totemic function.
Life-in-death: the opposition of wood-henge and stone-henge does not have to be absolute. I would definitely want life-giving blue stones in my community's place of cremation and memorialization. I think the twinning of the life-giving stones with the winter-solstice-sunset
alignment bear out this ambiguity, at the heart of so much religious experience.
