How Can You Support Social Learning?
Think about your learning and/or your employees and co-workers learning: how can you support them and yourself with social learning?
For some inspiration, read this article and watch the following video:
„We Learn More When We Learn Together: Find some tipps and tricks“ - In this article by Jane E. Dutton and Emily Heaphy, in the Harvard Business Review, January 2016 you will find 8 tipps about how to create and maintain with your „high-quality connections“ at work.
Supporting Social Learning

Support of Social Learning
In order to support Social Learning with my colleagues and for myself, I found the following information highly relevant and interesting:
- that about 90% of social learning takes place outside of the classroom / place where formal learning takes place usually
- that social learning is most effective where high-quality, enriching relationships between the co-learners exist
Therefore, it would be beneficial from my point of view
to take more time to pro-actively exchange ideas with my team-mates with whom I am currently working in a MOOC. In particular, it is important to invest time in the building of a trustful relationship since we were assigned at random and did not know each other before the MOOC
to take a look at trends and technologies that drive my industry and my employer and find colleagues, with whom I have a very good relationship, to dig deeper into this topic and share ideas. Find out in more informal occasions what interests & motivates them and compare this to my interests
understand that meeting colleagues for a coffee to talk about an innovative topic is not a "waste of time" but can be very enriching --> That is, a change of mindset how work and learning is organised
We are planning to add features such as messaging that facilitate the spontaneous and informal exchange between course participants to improve the community experience. Stay tuned!
