CCAA | Chinese Contemporary Art Award

I view contemporary art outside the West as a cultural maze.

There is the beauty of the shapes and the colours or the craftmanship; but also the frustration of feeling lost in a reference jigsaw with unfamiliar artist names and a mysterious calligraphy.

Discovering such a new space like Chinese contemporary art can appear at first a bit scary.

I think this is how the CCAA comes as the Ariadne's thread. The Pulitzer Prize or the prix Goncourt for Chinese contemporary art.

For a newcomer like me, staring my cross checking artist names in a book who have won the CCAA (Duan Jianyu, Xiao Yu, Cao Fei...) has given me a starting point to explore and understand the juxtaposition of contemporary art and tradition in China.
