SCROLL DOWN FOR INSTRUCTIONS

Read this article and share your views with colleagues. Is the Australian "Pacific solution" against human rights? What do you think of Nauru and the other "prison islands"?

As always, you can share your view by writing in your own journal, but also commenting on what others have written.

Asylum Seeker Camps

0

Nauru is the third smallest country in the world but it is a sovereign country. The refugee camps there are financed by Australia. I know these camps have terrible living conditions just like the camps in Greece and around the world. Australia is within its legal rights to return asylum seekers to these camps until their immigration status can be ascertained but to leave people there indefinite is against a person's human rights. Just for argument sake, what if Australia determines that an asylum seekers isn't eligible for protections as a refugee what should be done next? Return these people to their countries, allow them to stay in camps? What? I don't know.
