Proposed Solutions: Plausibility

0

I have seen a number of documentaries which purport to show how the stones were transported and then the monument erected. However, whilst many appear at first sight convincing, of course the makers of those programmes only talk about those aspects which support their hypotheses.

Factors which militate against their hypotheses are glossed over. So, for example, the massive amounts of rope that would be required under some hypotheses for transporting the stones, at a time when rope was not so common, are left out.

That makes it very difficult to assess the plausibility of the various theories associated with Stonehenge. The average member of the public can probably discount the more outlandish ideas, but is not in the great position to judge some of the better ideas.
