Stonehenge in the Landscape

0

Stonehenge is not just a monument on its own, it is one in a progression of barrows, avenues and henges. Unless we could travel back in time we will never know the exact purpose for any of the features in the landscape but with the evidence found we can make an educated guess at the purpose. Is it a calendar or a temple to the Gods, or a way of marking the transition from the living to the dead. The barrows seem to indicate that the ancestors had a lot to do with meeting of people from all over Britain at certain times of the year.
What was so special about this part of the country?
