Not just stones or landscape

1

We should think about landscape, but also ideological context. What was their message to their own society/ or neighbours? What was message adressed to their deities?
Some would say that location is not the best possible because there are higher points close to the Stonehange. But that is perspective of our society. That specific place had special meaning for it's builders.

I am interested in this too. If the Mesolithic/Neolithic people's were ancestor focused and given this period encompasses the move from hunter gatherer to settled agricultural societies, it is suggestive that these sites are about remembering/celebrating ancestor hunters and their famous hunts. Later in the monuments history the focus could have become more agriculturally focused with there links to astronomical phenomena?
