My Global cultural experience

I was born in Kazakhstan, but at the age of 3 my family and I moved to Russia, Siberia. I was living there, in small town, where I graduated school, then university.
I got a Bachelor's degree in Cultural Studies, and now I study Visual Culture in Moscow.
I think there is great differences not only between national cultures but I have experienced to face the differences between cultures inside one country though it is large. I mean culture of capitals, big cities and culture of peripheral small towns and moreover countries. It is all about global and local, similar and unique, the point is the scale of comparison.
I do a comparative research about contemporary art and art theory. I am interested in the concept of Metamodernism that was formulated by Dutch scientists Vermeulen and van den Akker (2010).
And now my question is can we talk about Metamodernism as a general theory of art and culture? Will it be justified to use this concept in the context of Asian region?

Welcome to the course and thank you for your questions.
I would like to hear your opinion on them .

First, I must admit that I am not overly familiar with "Metamodernism" as a concept, but I tend to answer your first question "can we talk about Metamodernism as a general theory of art and culture?" with YES, on the one hand because I think it is formulated broad enough to be used as a "general approach". On the other hand because I like picking one concept as a kind of lense or lookinglass (in this case Metamodernism) to look at ones world (in this case art and culture) from a different angle and (though not everything will be similarly fitting, of course) you can see a few things within a new light and already gained some new insights. As long as you keep in mind that this will never be the only way of looking at it...

So with your second question "Will it be justified to use this concept in the context of Asian regions?" I am rather indefinite: could be, but depends on how you approach it. Will you try to ues it as the only concept to approach this or are you planning on "testing it" against others?
