Climate Change and Health

Since the 1970’s scientists have recorded continually unprecedented high temperatures for what they call the Global Mean Temperature Over Land and Ocean. Further studies on weather patterns and changes in crop yield and soil compositions has also revealed that on the average, the world is getting warmer. The rates of change in average temperatures and precipitations over this period, also known as Climate Change, has evidently caused several impacts on our planet including rising sea levels, shifts in ecosystems, extreme weather events like melting of the glaciers, drought and floods only to mention a few.
The common cause for these impacts include direct and indirect human actions and inaction in contributing greenhouse gases like Carbon and Methane to our atmosphere. About 30% of the sun’s energy is supposed to be reflected back into space by the atmosphere, clouds and surface of the earth. But the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere absorbs much of the sun’s energy, preventing it from immediately escaping and subsequently warm the earth. Therefore the larger the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere the hotter the earth becomes.
