Advances and changes in technology have accelerated all facets of life world wide. In the past 15 years China has been at the forefront of change, social as well as technological. The death of Mao and the embracing of a capitalist, if still communist, economy, resulted in the original model for the CCAA becoming outdated. I do not believe artists in China wish to be isolated, they have a need to be accessed and appreciated by contemporary artists world wide. The change in structure, monetary value and nomination reflects this.
