Stoneheng - Part of a landscape

0

Stonehenge may well be made of stones, but because of their placement, they are more than merely stones. First, the stones presence represents man's achievements. It took an enormous amount of skill to collect the stones, move the stones great distances and then erect the stones. When completed, Stonehenge was a marvel of man's ingenuity. Second, Stonehenge was a part of an overall complex. Starting with Woodhenge, following the river Avon, we find the Bluestonehenge, the Avenue, and the Cursus. They all belong to a grand idea. Each monument is not seen as a separate entity, but rather each is part of the Stonehenge landscape.
