One recommendation for the pen/pencil: it seems to me that the pen you are using is rather thick and probably also hard to use with different pressure (probably not too much ink left...) - at least from the photo it looks as if you would have to press it quite strong on the paper to get some really dark marks. Try to use a rather soft pencil (2B or softer) - to also have more easy variation with the pressure (light and heavy) that you put on the pen/pencil - that will allow even more variations and it will help you if you need to restate light lines.
