SCROLL DOWN FOR INSTRUCTIONS

Read this article and share your views with colleagues. Is the Australian "Pacific solution" against human rights? What do you think of Nauru and the other "prison islands"?

As always, you can share your view by writing in your own journal, but also commenting on what others have written.

Prison islands

In my opinion, the 'Pacific Solution' not only doesn't offer a real solution but it's also very immoral. In fact, it reminds me of the story of Pilate in the Bible washing his hands and ridding himself of the problem by shifting it on to someone else.

Besides, many reports show that the conditions in these island detention centres are very bad and these islands have turned into 'prison islands'. Now, if these migrants are being treated in such a way, it's certainly against the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms. Somehow, certain authorities seem to forget along the way that they have a very basic role of ensuring these rights and freedoms for all persons under their jurisdiction.
