Why I was drawn to this course.

1

I am a retired teacher from a small community in Alberta, Canada. Thank you for developing this course drawing on the European and Canadian experience with immigration.

This issue is very important for the future of our planet and everyone should be exposed to facts and should be engaged in the dialogue surrounding it. Obviously not everyone can leave the difficult circumstances in their own country to migrate to more stable and affluent countries. Immigration is not a solution; it is only a bandaid. Governments and citizens need to work on stopping the problems that lead to mass immigration. The problems of poverty, terrorism, war, climate change need to be addressed so that people can live peaceful and content lives in their own lands.

That being said, mass immigration is happening now and will continue to be an issue until such time as the listed problems are resolved if they ever will be. We as the nations dealing with refugees need to develop strategies to handle immigration in a compasionate and thoughtful way to ease pressures on both the receiving countries and the immigrants. It is a massive problelm for those countries where refugees are fleeing without limits or transitting to get to other countries. This is a major problem for the world as a whole and we need the best reliable information to develop best practices for dealing with this massive problem. Thank you again for taking on this task. I hope to learn from your efforts.
