Chapter 6.2 Workers' strategies in a global economy

0

In some countries, such as in Turkey, migrant workers are not allowed to unionize. If they do, workers are dismissed with the attendant risk of losing their residence permit and having to return to home countries. Under these conditions, most workers do not dare to associate and suffer from lower wages, lower benefits (e.g. number of holidays) and worst working conditions (e.g. they are not given personal protective equipment). Some local unions are contacting these migrant workers in order to provide advice and support and are elevating the problem to international union associations such as ITUC or BWInt to bargain with the host country governments.
