Stonehenge

What an amazing site,not just the stones them self but the whole area.
What Strikes me it the population in the country at time was about the size of a large town or city. So to build the henge then over the the next thousands years or so, create the landscape that includes Avebury, Blickmead etc,seems to highlight the area as an important site for the people of the time.
I wonder if in fact it would have been like there capital city. A place where the different tribes/people groups would meet, trade, celebrate etc.
