Chapter 3 Journal Activity

the most memorable information is the most dramatic and what can be more dramatic than human sacrifice.

Being a Welshman i was brought up among people who have a very strange take on history that have been shaped by people like geoffrey of Monmouth.
Although Monmouth undoubtedly produced some wonderful work and give us an insight into the world he lived in he often seemed to get carried away with the myths and legends of the time.

I say that but in medievel times those myths and legends were as real to them as England being rubbish at football is to us :)

The thing is though he wrote a lot of what people today want to hear.
They want his words to be the reality so will stick to those beliefs regardless of what the experts tell them.

This is the case not only with geoffrey of Monmouth but Bede as well.

Bede had a deep hatred for the native Britons and this hatred shaped alot of what he wrote. However, some people like what he wrote and take it as fact.

Most people dont look very deep into history or even take free courses like this. They base thier opinions on word of mouth or tit bits from here and there. Often the most memorable information is the most dramatic and what can be more dramatic than human sacrifice.
