Student discovering more about the impact art has on our world

0

As an aspiring Art Historian, hoping to study History of Art at university next year, I am always looking for new opportunities to expand my knowledge and learn more about this incredible subject which impacts our world in so many fundamental ways. I have not had the chance to study Art History and I find that a lot of books that have been recommended to me primarily focus on Western Art so this course on Chinese Contemporary Art immediately caught my attention. I feel that my knowledge of the History of Art and current topics raised within art is limited to Western Art. It feels as if I am looking at this subject through a small hole, with little scope for a complete understanding - I am unable to see the whole picture. Consequently, this course will hopefully give me an opportunity to widen my vision beyond Western Art and delve into other areas of the History of Art.

I have never had the chance to discover about Chinese Art and hope that this course will open a new door into the Art World that will help me progress in my understanding of the topic. I am aware of the increasing growth of Eastern Art in the art market so feel that this topic is an important area that I need to be more aware of and increase my knowledge in.

I hope to gain from this course a foundation in my understanding of Chinese Contemporary, learning the factors that surround the production of art and of which have an impact on the art of China as well as the impact that Chinese art has on its culture and society. I want to also gain the ability to apply this knowledge to the modern world whether that be within current societies or relevant issues of the moment.
