Global Culture

To me, most "global culture" is american "culture" and as a european i am very sorry that it overrides every european tradition and culture. So many important cultural history is being deleted by this. It is just awful.

And european languages also tend to be erased by english, which also deletes cultural heritage.

This is probably true. But this overwhelming US presence has also sharpened our senses and I can see similar trends happening in emerging countries even faster. If things are not entirely lost a new balance between local and global has to be formed over a hopefully short period of time.

Maybe i am so pessimistic because i just saw a great documentary on the european border countries and there were so many traditions, which nowaday vanish. There were women, who could still perform their traditional polyphon singing and they told the reporter that their children are not interested in this anymore and thus won't continue this tradition. In Lwiw (the former "Lemberg", Polen) the film showed new bands, who do american hiphop - also wearing these us-kind-t-shirts with english text on them. And yesterday i saw a documentary on france and how the breton language is almost dying, because young people do not want to be associated with this old language anymore. But yes, i agree, there might be a chance in all this overwhelming US-culture. We do have so many countries in Europe, we do need a language we do all speak and by thus culture can also be transmitted, where we otherwise would not have any notice of because of the language boundaries. Lets hope this also applies to the emerging countries and our knowledge of their culture!!!
