Stonehenge Landscape

Stonehenge is in reality a prominent feature within the wider landscape, and is a part of it while designed to stand out. Particularly if approached by the avenue. The way that it reveals itself as dominant on the skyline after walking around the dog-leg turn is wondrous now and must have been then. the Stonehenge landscape is still to really be defined as far as I am concerned. the relationship with the wider area outside of the UNESCO WHS, Avebury, the vale of Pewsey, Marden Henge, even possibly including west Kennet and Silbury hill, down as far as Downton. all so close and contemporary. Part of a whole, with pieces missing from the jigsaw, or competing sites?
