Extreme weather changes have a detrimental effect on the health of living in at risk areas. Increase in temperature makes the elderly people more prone to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Include unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits makes even the younger generation at risk of such diseases. Currently, the effects of El Nino is felt in the region I live in. The heat wave has a major impact in our everyday lives and we don't even have to read the news anymore to know how we are affected by it. Just this week, a workmate of mine died due to pneumonia and complications in the heart. Neighbors report of someone in their families dying due to heatstroke or high blood pressure. Right now it seems that death directly or indirectly caused by the increase in temperature is not just a statistical fact but a common reality. Cardiovascular diseases still remain to be one of the causes of death in my region now more than ever due to the hotness of the weather.
