I'm an artist game designer and author of Drawing Basics and Video Game Art: Classic to Cutting Edge Art Techniques for Winning Video Game Design (Watson Guptill 2012). The book has been translated into Japanese, and a Korean translation is on its way.
I'm interested in the intersections between video games and classical art, animation, and film, to explore how player interaction has changed the way in which we interpret and engage with images. My particular focus is on adapting techniques that help artists convey more complex narratives and emotions in video games.
I've given talks at various international events and institutions including the Smithsonian Museum's 'The Art of Video Games' exhibition, SXSW, UCLA Game Lab, USC Interactive Media Division, NYU Game Center, and FMX Stuttgart.
I received a BA in computer animation and began working as a 3D character and environment artist for Sony Computer Entertainment in London. Eventually, I enrolled in art classes at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where my interest in applying classical art techniques to video games began. I currently develop my own video games under SOLARSKI STUDIO, with the aim of exploring new forms of player interaction and creating more expressive and varied emotional experiences in games. I also lecture at SAE in Zurich, Switzerland.
