It is astounding how different are the conditions of those who arrived by plane, an expensive way of transport; from the conditions that those coming by boat, face.

While the text suggests there is great opposition to the offshore detention, I have read reports and polls suggesting that Australian public opinion is equally divided on the matter with many Australians thinking that all boats should be turned back, which means refusing the passangers any protection or option to have their applications submitted. However, when a boat is turned around it is not on Australia if the boat sinks half a day later.
