Stonehenge has an extensive impact on British culture, even if people don't realise it. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the country, and even those without a background in history or archaeology will recognise it instantly. It is something to be proud of and its air of mystery will always make it a talking point.

In art and literature it has also made a big impact, and has been an inspiration for creative works for many years. Again, its mysteriousness helps it to be a focus for creative works, and provides an attraction for people viewing/reading them. I find it particularly interesting that Hardy made Stonehenge the scene of his climactic scene in Tess - it could have happened anywhere but it clearly appealed to him as a dramatic setting.
