Why am I taking this course and what goals I would like to achieve?

The Chinese contemporary art market has exploded over the last decade. There is a growing interest from both Western collectors and those from mainland China. With a not very long history, it has already become a very important part in the art market. I am interested in Chinese contemporary art because, at the beginning, was out of curiosity: why is everyone crazy about it? After looking more into it, I started to be attracted by it. It is not only about it's market value & popularity, but through many of the Chinese contemporary art pieces, viewers are able to understand more about the history (especially after Cultural Revolution), society and political issues of China.
I am very pleased to know about this course after attending a public workshop at the Connecting Space in Hong Kong on The Sigg Collection. I am also very impressed with the effort and generosity of Mr Uli Sigg, in developing and promoting Chinese contemporary art.

Dear Winny,
thank you for this statement. I often try to read art as a vehicle to to gain insight, understanding and a bit of knowledge about societies and the people that make them. I am really interested in different art forms such as community based art or art that uses certain cultural techniques. In this context, I just read about an exhibition that is currently running in HK. It is open until 24 April and is called "Hack Space" at the K11 Art Foundation Pop-up Space. http://www.k11artfoundation.org/en/programme/hack-space-2/
The exhibition ist curated bei Amira Gad and Hans Ulrich Obrist, it "takes at its core the theme of hacking space – the idea that place, territory and infrastructure can be radically adapted in unorthodox ways to solve problems. Through an unconventional organisational, social and spatial arrangement, the hacker-like “Shan Zhai” principle is an underlying link between the exhibited works in HACK SPACE."
Unfortunately, as I am in Zurich, I cannot go and have a look...Have you seen it maybe?
