`Start by reading this article and discuss in your journal how current official definitions of "migrants", "refugees" and "asylum seekers" are challenged by the on-going migration crisis at the South-East borders of Europe.

The ongoing crisis due to the flow of peoples pushing at the European borders is challenging the boundary line between refugees and migrants. The UN Institutions are trying to keep a clear distinctions between the two categories but academics - and the real situation - are pointing out that the differences are so much blurred than it was in the past.
The war in Syria has been, in some way, a crucial situation which could change the approach to the issue.
A refugee is someone who "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted, has fled to another country and is in need of protection".
Many people fled their contry to a neibghbour one, these people should be considered - if escaping from the war - refugees but they become migrants when they travel to other countries in search of a better life or they become asylum-seekers again.
There is also another apact to consider which add complexity to the issue, each contry has his own legislation about migrants and refugees.
Moreover there is a psychological perspective, general public use to consider with much more emphaty a refugee than a migrant. Not to mention the protection the status of refugee give to the person who is under this status.
